Lining Wallpaper

Firstly let me stress that contrary to popular belief Lining Paper is not to be used to 'cover up' bad inperfections and avoid the correct preparation.

We always fill and rub down any bad imperfections before applying lining paper. Lining paper is thin and will only cover rubbed down walls with absolutely minor imperfections. Walls may need sealing before applying lining paper.

Lining papers come in different thicknesses from 60 grade (very thin) up to 2000 grade (very thick). The best general grade lining paper we have found is around 1200 grade

So What Is Lining Paper Used For? - To cover VERY MINOR inconsistencies in the wall or to get even porosity, especially in old houses.  However, THE MAIN REASON is to stop shrinkage in the top paper. The fibres in lining paper go the opposite way to normal wallpaper and bind it and thus stop shrinkage.

Printed Wallpaper

Printed wallpapers are probably the most commonly used and are made from paper or fabric, and can be purchased either pre-pasted (for use with water) or un-pasted (for use with hanging paste).

They range from mass produced designs to more bespoke items.

Hand printed wallpapers and wallpapers made from existing artwork are also available and are most often commissioned as limited editions and so are much more expensive.

It is not adviseable to use printed wallpaper in rooms where there is a lot of condensation, steam, or any risk of water damage.

Printed papers can be tricky to hang as the paper is delicate and can tear if not positioned correctly.

Vinyl Wallpaper

The benefits of vinyl wallpaper are endless

The first benefit of vinyl wallpaper is that when you use vinyl for your walls you will know that it is an extremely durable type of wallpaper.
 
Vinyl is easy to clean and requires almost no maintenance.

Because it is easily cleaned, vinyl wallpaper is very suitable for use in rooms such as kitchens, bathrooms or childrens playrooms where little fingers can mess up the walls.

People like the fact that vinyl paper is washable and can be removed and installed again if it needs repair.

Vinyl wallpaper is much easier to clean than wall paint and other wallpaper.

Once vinyl wallpaper is put up, it will stay for a long time without fading or falling apart.

I would just mention that whilst Vinyl Wallpaper is washable there are certain wallpapers which are specifically marketed as washable.

Flock Wallpaper

Flock wallpaper is very luxurious. It feels like velvet to touch due to it's fibre pattern and is also pretty expensive so you do not want to have any mistakes when trying to hang it.

For some reason people always seem to want to touch Flock Wallpaper which often results in it becoming marked.

It is not adviseable for amateurs to hang flock wallpaper because it is a specialist job and the paper will be irreversibly damaged by bad hanging.

The biggest problem you will find is that if you get paste on the Flock then the texture will be ruined and the Flock wallpaper will be unuseable, so always use a professional or it can end up as very expensive wallpaper.

You will find that Flock Wallpaper can create a soothing environment for your home lounge or sophisticated office.

Anaglypta And Supaglypta Wallpaper

Anagalypta wallpaper is thick and very hard wearing. It is embossed with a pattern and there are numerous pattern available.

It is a textured wallpaper made from either paper or vinyl and can be painted.

Although it is possible to get it in different colours, it is normally white as people tend to paint it with various colours of emulsion paint.

Anaglypta paper is easy to hang as it is normally a high grade wallpaper. As well as this the fact that it is embossed means that it can be very useful in hiding any minor imperfections in the wall surface.

There is also something called Supaglypta paper which as the name implies, is even superior to Anaglypta paper. It is a very heavy wallpaper that is almost impervious to staining and very hard wearing.

Because Supaglypta papers are so hard wearing they are often used in areas such as kitchens that may get a lot of abuse, as well as areas where there is a possibility of the wallpaper getting scraped such as on stairs or in hallways

Wood ChipWallpaper

Wood chip wallpaper has been around for around for at least 3 decades. It is however believed to have originated in France in the 1930s

So what is wood chip wallpaper?

Wood chip wallpaper is a type of wall covering that is made much like traditional wallpaper, using a variety of techniques. It features small, wood-grain pieces of wood being trapped in the paper.

Wood chip paper comes in various grades.Basically the thicker the paper the better the quality. Because of this most woodchip paper gives great coverage and is often used to hide minor imperfections in wall surfaces, although it is nothing like as popular as it used to be.

Because it is really designed to be painted with a high quality emulsion paint, it normally comes in white.
